Splendid day to fly to Corfu

From Elba to Bari-Parese down the central spine of Italy; great scenery, and great ATC service.  After a slight delay in Elba due to our filed flight plan not showing up on the tower's system we lifted off to the south east to some stunning scenary out over the bay just beyond the runway.  Further on we coasted in north of Rome onwards towards the Tiber and up into the mountains beyond.  The skies were clear making the 6,500 overpass a pleasant cruise with a chance to check out the natural geography along the way.  Old glacial tracks could be clearly spotted, now often covered in fertile agricultural lands.  Villages and towns were perched above canyons or gourges, the prominent churchs or monasteries visible from afar.

Arriving at Bari we were routed to the north west (BRNW3) and the coast for a downwind left entry fto runway 35.  Bari is medium sized provincial airport and our final approach took us behind a medium jet (737 or a 320).  Being careful of wake turbulence we approached above the aeroplanes path and aimed for the far end of the runway.  Setting down on the far end of the apron we refuelled rested for 30 minutes and prepared for our next leg to Corfu.

The sea crossing to Corfu was equally clear where and we headed towards Othoni and on the LGKR.  Our approach took us to Pelakas, a small beach I visited whilst at University.  It was here that I had my very first Pizza.  Oh! What a great holiday that was so long ago.  Never did I imagine that I would one day be flying over head some 28 plus years later.

It has to be said that Corfu has some stunning properties along the coast, large houses with splendid infinity pools, not a bad place for a nice retirement pad?

Clearing immigration we made it to the hotel, our best so far, the Mayor Mon Repos " Art Hotel". The season here in Corfu has not really started yet so we have managed to get a really favourable rate; thank you Hotel Mayor Mon Repos.
