Not Seeing the Best of India
After a pleasant departure and flight from Raipur to Calcutta we are not seeing the best of India. Our departure from India was efficient enough was we. Anaged to get boarding passes for our own helicopter. Security would not let us in without boarding cards, to our own helicopter, that we are flying around the world.
The hotel is scank, again no beer, again they claim that there is a 500 ft rule about serving alcohol from the road. So why say that they have a bar when they do not. They offer to bring beer to our rooms, but it is not beer I want, it is a bar!
The rooms are hot, the rooms do not provide bottled water, so not happ. We are at 2:30 pm local but there is nowhere to go outside. The hotel is pretty much located on a underpass, and is surrounded by shanty huts.
I am going to try and get a taxi to someplace with a bit of life, tomorrow we are going to see some rough stuff, so I need a detox before then.
Managed to get a cab to the Swissotel and the attached mall. After looking around the mall we were able to have a couple of beers on the sixth floor at the hotel. The bartender came from the Christian north East and had only been in Calcutta for two weeks. We had a pleasant conversation and so the day improved.
The arrival in Calcutta was on the 19L ILS, so we did the LNAV with vectors. On the ground we were met by around 15 plus persons, what do they all do?!
