Arrival at the Centre of the Earth

Pontianak is on the equator and thus has the nickname to equatorial city.  inorder for us to get there we have to cross the China Sea.  So today we have a long sea crossing, the good news it that means  o high ground, the bad news is that for most of our trip today there is no ground to divert to.  When we check the weather and look out of the window we see that it all appears clear, we can can see for miles.

Before we lift however we have an important task, we need the tower to sign our FIA forms to register that we arrived at our antipode.  Dates and times of landing and departure must match the tower records exactly.  After difficulty we get someome to sign the forms, but we are not sure whether the individual concerned fully understands the situation.

All signed we set of across the 200+ miles of water.  initially we do come across some low level cloud but it soon clears up over the ocean.  When clear we can see for 47.5m from an altitude of 1,500ft, check it out at the horizon calculator on google.

Pontianak is about 20 miles in from the coast.  We make good progress after landing and get away from the airport within about 45 mins.  The hotel is reasonable if smelly.  I pop out to check out the scooters on the street, Indonesians all drive around in scooters, it looks quite incredible.  On my walk I pass through a fruit, veg and meat market.  I am sure not many westerners venture through this market.  unfortunately it looks as if I missed the business time of day but I still saw plenty.
