Zona Colonial

Another day with my honey, we wake up and have breakfast before trying to arrange a conformation of Maria's transport to Punta Cana.  We are told that someone will phone us back, we were also told this yesterday.

Anyway we decide to go and see the Cathedral and old town, Zona Colonial.  Our driver this morning is Modesto, the driver who picked me up from Puerto Plata, so at least was I was able to confirm my transport.

Modesto first took us to the heroes memorial were he introduced us to an English speaking guide.  The Heroes Memorial is an impressive old church which houses dead heroes and is guarded by a solitary solemn soldier.  There are two tombs remaining to be filled, maybe Maria and myself may become Dominican heroes.

Our guide walks us through the Zona Colonial where we visit the Cathedral, the first Cathedral in the Americas, and we pass the first hospital, first church, and first university.  There are a lost of first here!  We also visit a Leramay factory, shop were Maria buys a prettty necklace, before we visit Christopher Columbus' son's home.  An impressive building on two floors.  Our last stop is a cigar making shop, we do not indulge.

After a few hours we heard back to the hotel via Macdonalds for a siesta and to check up on Maria's ride.  No news so we book a hotel driver at a cost of $220.  During our siesta Maria's original transport calls but we cancel it as they seam unreliable.

Siesta had, we pop down for a swim underneath grey skies.  Tonight we pack and have a dinner at. Restaurant just outside of the hotel, mine is a pizza and Maria manages a gluten free meal.

Early morning tomorrow for the long drive so an early night tonight.
